However, the Vikings, who lost Pro Bowl wideout Sidney Rice for at least half of the season due to hip surgery this week, balked at the restricted free agent Jackson's demands for a five-year, $50 million contract with $30 million guaranteed, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Wednesday, citing league sources.
The Vikings said no thanks and signed free agent Javon Walker instead on Tuesday.
The Chargers granted the Seattle Seahawks permission to speak with Jackson's agents about contract terms, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported.
Jackson and Pro Bowl left tackle Marcus McNeill, also a restricted free agent, have skipped all offseason workouts and training camp practices while seeking long-term deals. The Chargers tendered both players one-year contracts valued at more than $3 million. Those tenders were reduced by more than $2.5 million when the duo did not sign by June 15.
This past weekend, the Chargers placed both on the Roster Exempt List, meaning they cannot play for three games after the date they sign and report. In addition, Jackson already must serve a three-game suspension for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy.
