The Pittsburgh Steelers made the (official) decision to re-sign Byron Leftwich earlier than expected on Monday; turns out there might be a good reason, if Dennis Dixon is indeed going to miss significant time with a torn meniscus.

That's the injury that Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting for the former Steelers backup turned Steelers starter turned backup, etc.

Florio reports that Dixon will get additional opinions on the injury Tuesday and Wednesday in order to determine what he should do for the long term.

For the short term, though, it would appear as if Charlie Batch and Leftwich are the only options for the Steelers to start in their third attempt to stay undefeated while Ben Roethlisberger serves his suspension.
