OL Boothe has torn muscle; Kevin Boss having surgery has 0 comments
May 22nd 2010, 14:44 | FFN-Score: 25 points
Boothe was injured earlier this week while working out and will have surgery next week, the team said Friday.
Starting tight end Kevin Boss also is going to have surgery next week, on his ankle. The arthroscopic procedure should sideline him for four to six weeks, meaning he should be ready for training camp in late July.
Most of the Giants who had surgery in the past year participated in the organized team activities that began this week, including running back Andre Brown and defensive tackle Jay Alford, who were injured before last season.
Brown had his rookie season spoiled by a ruptured Achilles' tendon in a training camp practice on Aug. 14. Alford tore knee ligaments in a preseason game at Chicago.
Also participating are running back Brandon Jacobs (knee surgery), defensive end Justin Tuck (shoulder), fullback Madison Hedgecock (shoulder), center Shaun O'Hara (elbow), guard Rich Seubert (shoulder), receiver Mario Manningham (shoulder) and linebacker Gerris Wilkinson (wrist). Running back Ahmad Bradshaw (both feet and one ankle) also participated on a limited basis.
The biggest concern is starting safety Kenny Phillips, who underwent major knee surgery early last season and still is not ready to participate in drills.
Receiver Hakeem Nicks (wrist/toe) and defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (shoulder) did not participate this week, although Bradshaw and Nicks are expected to return within the next two weeks.
