Lions' Jones to have injured foot examined by specialist has 0 comments

Detroit, MI --- Detroit Lions running back Kevin Jones, on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform list with a left foot injury, will have the foot re-examined on Thursday by the specialist who performed surgery on it last December.

“We just have to see where he’s at," Detroit coach Rod Marinelli said. "We can’t make a mistake. We’ve got to be smart on it.�

Jones will miss the first six weeks of the regular season if he remains on the PUP list when teams are required to reach the 53-player roster limit on Saturday. While there is a strong chance Jones will remain on the PUP, there remains a possibility the Lions could add him to the active roster if there's a consensus opinion that the fourth-year player could be available sooner than Week 7. Jones, who has been held out of the preseason, remains hopeful he can play in the season opener Sept. 9 in Oakland.

Jones' appointment is with Dr. Bob Anderson, the Charlotte, N.C.-based physician who performed surgery on his injured left foot.

“We’re going to get everything answered by the surgeon whot did the surgery and our doctor," Marinelli said. "They all have to sit down and look at all the information to see where he’s at. Every week we do that; I try to get an evaluation of where he’s at. Now we bring all the medical people in to help us make that decision; that’s the No. 1 thing.�

Jones suffered a Lisfranc injury, a tearing of the tissues that connect the bones in the middle of the foot, and had surgery in December. Rehabilitation typically takes a year or more because of the tissues involved. Jones is attempting to return in nine months.

Jones has been running and cutting at full speed most of training camp and said he feels well enough to play.
