It seems probable that quarterback Kevin Kolb will make his second consecutive start in place of injured Michael Vick when the Philadelphia Eagles play host to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia reported.

Vick did not practice Wednesday, and he hasn't thrown a football since sustaining cartilage damage in his ribs during a Week 4 loss to the Washington Redskins. Coach Andy Reid said the swelling in Vick's ribs is decreasing, and the coach has not ruled out Vick starting against his former team. Reid added that Vick could return to practice by the end of the week.

Kolb passed for more than 250 yards and a touchdown in Sunday night's victory at San Francisco.

“I tried to go in with a bunch of confidence last week and I’m going to do the same thing this week,” Kolb said. “Obviously, with a young QB, it grows every week and hopefully the better you play the more confidence you gain, so that’s my mentality. Keep moving forward, don’t look in the past, and keep getting more and more confident.”

Meanwhile, tackle Jason Peters will undergo arthroscopic surgery on a torn meniscus Thursday and will not play Sunday. Reid called it a “cleanout”, and no return date for Peters was set.

"We'll see how long that takes," Reid said. "All of those are different."

Defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley, who was thought to need elbow surgery, might not require the procedure and might return this season. Reid said it would be a “stretch” for Bunkley to play Sunday.
