Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant was helped off the field by trainers after injuring his right ankle at the end of practice Friday.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillip said the preliminary diagnosis on Bryant is an ankle sprain, but the receiver would undergo more tests to confirm that.

Bryant, the 24th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, became entangled with a defender while trying to catch a pass near the end of practice. When Bryant got up and tried to walk, he grimaced in obvious pain, then sat down on the turf and reached for his right ankle.

Trainers checked on Bryant and helped him off the field. The extent of the injury and the exact nature of it weren't immediately known.
