“That’s my goal and that’s what I’m doing right now. I’m going to everything I can to become the starter,” he said. “My mentality is to prepare like I’m the starter and just go out there each and every day and have that mindset.”
And really, what is he going to say here? That he is thrilled to be a back up? Of course, that is where he is likely to start the season.
As Bucky Brooks wrote recently, the Panthers success this season depends on Matt Moore, who was rather impressive during his audition at the end of last season — throwing eight touchdowns and no interceptions in the final four games of the season. The lack of interceptions was something needed after witnessing Jake Delhomme turn into the NFL’s version of British Petroleum, hemorrhaging interceptions like it was an oil leak.
Brooks says the pressure is on Moore to perform. I recently penned, in our NFL.com Fantasy Draft Kit, that Moore is going to become a legitimate fantasy quarterback this season. To quote Mugatu from Zoolander … “I feel like I am taking crazy pills.”
Moore was unbelievable for the Panthers, yet fantasy enthusiasts and football enthusiasts in general are not giving him more attention. Moore is going to be awesome this season as the Panthers and Falcons fight for the top spot in the NFC South (nobody repeats in that division, even Super Bowl champions).
