You are not reading this wrong: Cedric Benson of the Cincinnati Bengals is the NFL's leading rusher after five weeks with 487 yards. That's six more than Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, the defending rushing champion.

Benson earned his way to the top of the heap the hard way. With his 120 rushing yards against the Ravens on Sunday, he ended Baltimore's 39-game streak of not allowing 100 rushing yards to any player.

Selected fourth overall by Chicago in 2005, Benson is in his second year in Cincinnati. He joined the Bengals prior to Week 5 last season, after the Bears had released him in June following a pair of arrests less than six weeks apart. He went on to rush for a career-high 747 yards in just 12 games.

This season, he's become more comfortable with the Bengals and has played a huge role in their ride to the top of the AFC North.
