Randall Godfrey goes off on Patriots head coach  Comments

Boston, MA --- Washington Redskins linebacker Randall Godfrey went off on Patriots head coach Bill Belichick for running up the score after Washington's loss. "You need to show some respect for the game. You just don't do that. I don't care how bad it is. You're up 35 points and you're still throwing deep? That's no respect," Godfrey said. Belichick was asked about the subject, and said, "What did you want me to do, kick a field goal? We're just playing ... It's not (the offense's) job to not score. It's like I tell the offense, what the (bleep) do you think I send you guys out there for? To punt? We have a punt team for that."

I totally agree with Godfrey: Its very disrespective, period! And it is not just the lack of respect but also a stupidity to expose your starters - especially your starting QB - to risks such as injury! I mean, come on, these guys are up like 38-0 and still keep playing like they're down with 21 points in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl? Give me a break!

I believe, this will take revenge some time...the New England Patriots will get what they deserve for their behaviour! If Brady gets hurt - and I really hope he will for this stupid and classless behaviour - they can bury their hopes on another Super Bowl title!

But what do you wanna do?
Belichick is right when he says, that he can not send the offense out to punt. How stupid can a defense be, if the offense came out with ~200 attempts and the db are still get beat deep.. the WR have to run somewhere...

godfrey sucked yesterday. and so did the whole defensive unit. if they would have played better defensive football we all now would not have to listen to his childish comments about the patriots offense doing what its suposed to do: produce yards. what do you expect brady and co. to do. taking a knee on every down? get outta here randall!!!

Dude, there are so many ways to control the clock. It's quite simple: RUN the ball! Throwing deep doesn't seem to be an appropriate way to take time off the clock, does it? That's what I meant when writing "disrespective and classless behaviour"!

Run the ball, throw it in the flats to your backs and tight ends, stay in bounds, keep the clock running and PUNT the football, if you're not making the 10 in three downs...YOU'RE UPFRONT 38-0!!!

But like I already mentioned: This will take revenge some time...

Yes it will... and who know, maybe in Week 9 the Patriots play the Colts.
I think the Patriots will win, but if not i hope the Colts won´t stop till the final whistle.

"So the Patriots leave Tom Brady in the fourth period to throw another touchdown pass, this time making it 45-0 with nine minutes to go. Great. My only question is: Why didn't they try an onside kick afterward? " Great statement!!!

Other opinions: "I am a Patriots fan and I wonder what Bill is trying to prove. I couldn't believe that we ran up the score on the Redskins like that. It was kind of embarrassing as a fan of the Patriots and of football that we did that. For one the game was over. It was a dominant effort on both sides. The scoreboard was enough proof of how dominant the Pats are. We were up 45-0 in the 4th qtr. WHY WAS BRADY STILL IN THE GAME? WHY GO FOR IT ON 4th and2 INSIDE THE 10 INSTEAD OF KICKING THE FIELD GOAL? WHY THE GARBAGE TD TO WELKER? WHAT HAPPENS IF IN THE ATTEMPT TO PROVE A POINT AND FIRE A WARNING SHOT TO THE LEAGUE THAT BRADY GETS HURT? I was very dissappointed with that. In my opinion it tarnished a great win. I cannot see Dungy doing that. It served no purpose and was reckless and prideful."

Quite interesting, isn't it?

Another one: "You are the first honest patriot fan I heard say this....It is very refreshing...I know the pats are the best team in the nfl, but they are also the most classless team I have ever witnessed...Its not about proving a point or running up a score or daring someone to stop you...Its a sport and its about sportsmanship. Bellicheck has really tarnished what could be a remarkable story. I always respected the patriots for doing things the right way in prior years such as not overspending for free agents. I have lost all respect for them with all of the brady nonsense. Throwing bombs from the shotgun up 38 points is ridiculous. The chargers and colts both had big leads and just ran the clocks out yesterday. Rivers threw 3 passes the entire 2nd half after being up 35-3...Not the pats, nope still firing away up by 38 late......Very sad indeed. Thank you for being an honest fan, because if it was my team, I know it would bother me as well."

its all about keeping the scoring machine going. once you lose the streak its not easy to get back to it.

Why didn't the Patriots try an onside kick after Brady threw his 4th quarter touchdown to Welker to make it 45-0? With about 9 minutes left to play, they could have scored at least another two or three times "to keep the scoring machine going".

Dude, that's the dumbest bullshit I've read in an while...it absolutely proves nothing but disrespect and classless behaviour, period!

Marcel
BTW: I really hope - no, I pray to god - that this stupid behaviour will take revenge some time...it somehow has, if you leave your starters out on the field that long!

I am not just talking about Tom Brady getting hurt...go and ask Rams' QB Marc Bulger, what he was able to do with his starting left tackle and right guard out for season...

Exposing your starters to an injury risk like that isn't just classless and disrespective...it is bad coaching indeed!

I really don't understand why you people are crying and complaining about the Patriots running up the score - What do you want them to do.... Just go out there and turn the ball over ... or would you prefer they send out the practice squad ? Football is a competition people... The object of the game is to WIN - not take it easy on your opponent because they are clearly not able to play at the Patriots level... I am not even a Patriots fan, but I am amazed at the level of talent that they have and how they are able to dominate their opponents on the field.. Quit complaining because they are able to do things that other team cant.....

Sean, I totally agree with you regarding the Patriots' level of talent and how New England is able to dominate their opponents on the field. No question 'bout that, man!
But they already showed their talent and proved, that they're able to dominate the 'Skins by the end of the third quarter, when the score was 38-0! I know, that football is about scoring...but its also about fairness and sportsmanship! If a team is leading by a score of 38-0, the domination is quite obvious, from my point of view.

Why then keep on throwing deep and keep on scoring?

Like already mentioned (and quoted) above: Throwing bombs from the shotgun up 38 points is just ridiculous. The Chargers and the Colts both had big leads and just ran the clocks out Sunday. Rivers threw 3 passes the entire 2nd half after being up 35-3...not the Pats, nope, still firing away up by 38 late...very, very sad indeed.

We'll see what these Patriots can do at Indianapolis on Sunday...guess, Tony Dungy has some cover 2 perfection in stock for the "Brady-Bunch"!

This is the NFL.. it´s a business, like it or not. These guys doing their job and they get paid for it.
If the other teams can not compete they might have the wrong "workers" out there.

in college or highschool it should be teached to stop scoring, because there its all about sportsmanship and fairplay and "beeing a man", but like i said.. the nfl is business...

as a tom brady fantasy football owner you just gotta love belichik sticking with the deep passes....throw em, baby!!!

Some people are really missing the point here.

When a lead is secured late in a game, that's when it's time to protect your assets by removing your key starting position players so as to not risk injury.

This is when it also becomes time to run down the clock, and this is not done by throwing deep passes, it's done by running the ball, staying in bounds, and throwing short completions.

The Patriots got a nice dose of Karma courtesy of the New York Giants. I hope all of the showboating and excessive scoring was worth it, because where was it all when it mattered most?

@Jeremy:

You just took the words right out of my mouth! Thank you very much for this qualified statement! And btw: The Giants teared Brady's ass up in the big one!!!

Going 16-0 without winning the Super Bowl means absolutely nothing from my point of view...like you already wrote: Where was the scoring machine when it really mattered the most?
