| Alex Good Job Posts: 2044 | das is meine einschätzung und wenns nicht "dein Team" wäre, würdest du vielleicht auch anders denken. Einem Team was gönnen ist was anderes, als seine Leistung möglichst objektiv einzuschätzen, oder? |

| Simon Babeldaum Posts: 1327 | Porter ready to settle war on the field Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter spent a good portion of the Steelers' final press conference taking verbal shots at Seattle tight end Jerramy Stevens, who suggested there might be a breakdown in the Bettis bandwagon in Super Bowl XL on Sunday. And Porter -- who is described by teammates as the Steelers' most emotional leader -- hinted he will take his feelings toward Stevens to the field with him. "He's a tight end; I've never, ever been afraid of a tight end," Porter said. "They'd better not let him block me. I bet they won't make that coaching mistake. "We're going to try to tap out as many people as we can; I'm going to put it like that. We're going to try to send as many people to the sidelines as we can." Asked for his explanation of "tap out," Porter tapped the side of his head, demonstrating the motion players frequently use when they want to leave the game, usually because they are tired or injured. Porter obviously took exception to a remark by Stevens regarding the warm reception Bettis has received in his hometown during activities leading up to the NFL's championship game at Ford Field. "It's a heart-warming story and all that, but it will be a sad day when he leaves without the trophy," Stevens said. So, after two days of maintaining a relatively low profile in Super Bowl week, Porter came out swinging. Verbally, that is. "I understand how any person feels," he said. "You don't want to come into the game thinking that you are going to lose. I can appreciate that but at some point in time you are supposed to not say something. "I don't think he is worth enough to talk like that. Personally, I think he is soft. That's just me. This is his fourth year in the league and you have never heard anything about him until right now. He is just starting to play. "He was a first-rounder. You aren't too good if you are a first-rounder and you barely play four years, and that is just my opinion. If you are a first-rounder, you are supposed to come in and play immediately. You are barely getting on the field in your fourth year? And he got on because somebody got hurt so I don't respect his game or anything he talked about." Porter is no stranger to controversy. He was critical of the game officials in the Steelers' playoff win against Indianapolis, suggesting after an instant-replay reversal of an interception by teammate Troy Polamalu that NFL officials wanted Colts quarterback Peyton Manning to advance to the Super Bowl. Although his fellow Steelers might not always agree with Porter, they say they respect his willingness to stand up for his teammates. "I think it's easy to criticize him for what he said in the past," Bettis said. "But it's not like things he said in the past weren't true. The guy speaks off the cuff, he shows you what he believes and what he thinks. That's not a bad thing. "You all ask us to tell you something and when we kind of skate around the truth, that's accepted. But when we tell you what we believe to be the truth, I think we've been criticized." Steelers coach Bill Cowher defended Porter, who had been guarded in his interviews through the first two days of the Super Bowl media blitz. "It's just Joey being Joey," Cowher said. "I was pretty proud he lasted this long. He's an emotional leader for our football team. He's very respectful and we understand Seattle is a very good football team. We all know that." Depending on the situation and the Seahawks' pass-protection schemes, there is a good chance that the 6-foot-7, 260-pound Stevens and the 6-3, 250-pound Porter could settle their differences on the field Sunday. Porter is one of the Steelers' best pass rushers and Stevens could be in situations where he will be attempting to block Porter. "The good thing about it is I finally have somebody that I get to go against, instead of somebody that I don't get to go against," Porter said. "It is somebody who I get to line up against every single play and we will have the chance to settle our differences." Although he was indignant with Stevens' remark concerning Bettis, Porter seemed to relish the incident for its motivational value. "When you get a chance to take it personal, it gets you a little extra fired up," Porter said. "Now I feel like I have a chance to take it personal and I thrive off that. I like it this way anyways, to tell you the truth. I don't want to go into where you have to be in a situation where you can't say how you really feel and you act like it is going to be a nice game. "It is not going to be a nice game," he said. "They are trying to come out here and win the same trophy that I am trying to win. Only one of us can have it. Now I know how they really feel with the comments they said so I can tell you how I really feel. I don't have to hold any punches anymore. It is what it is. They are looking for a fight; I have been ready for a fight." Stevens said he has no regrets regarding his statement that touched off Porter's tirade. "I don't regret," he said. "I spoke the truth. No, I don't regret. "I was answering the questions. I definitely meant no disrespect toward Jerome, he's a Hall of Famer." Stevens also declined to respond to Porter's charges that he is "soft." "I have no thoughts on that," he said. "I will be ready to play on Sunday, just like my team will be ready to play on Sunday. I know Joey's a great player. I look forward to the challenge |
